The visiting ballerina was from an Eastern nation and was very slim and vital. All bodies are sacred to me, but it is legitimate to notice unusual ones. Some people chat in a massage setting at first. She wanted me to know the US was where she preferred to settle in all the world. Perhaps to teach, to retire?
Suddenly she spoke of her childhood. "I never had enough to eat. Some months were very bad. We used to dream about eating and wake up cold." Then she said, "I thought nobody in the world could have the drive to succeed in ballet like me. I thought Americans must be maybe lazy not to try so hard as me. Then I met you guys, I was in America awhile. Not lazy, very motivated people. Still nobody can challenge me for prima ballerina; you cannot be thin enough. You never starved! I see the beautiful children eight years old and I think, "You girls cannot be professionals, you eat every day!"
...The model was retiring. She had been a success in New York with a top agency for several years as both a runway and photo model. She still weighed about forty pounds less than many women her height. The retirement was caused when she fell in love and started gaining weight. Think fast! She quickly resumed form by biking ten miles a day or walking five. She loved exercise and how she felt. Then the agency heads called her in. "Your weight is fine but you are developing muscles," they explained. "American women can't picture themselves as you or in that dress if you have definition. Just be thin and smooth." She quit...I hope they are still together, active and very happy!
